Our products are assembled of fiberglass, polyethylene, stainless steel, and aluminum parts.  Neoprene gaskets are seated in the doors to provide positive, watertight seals.  These materials and the design make DOS-IR® Products extremely durable and minimize maintenance.

We use High Density PolyEthylene (HDPE) in sheet form, 3/8” and 1/2” thick to make the valve center, the guides, and the doors.  The black HDPE resists sunlight deterioration and is extremely tough and durable.  The bolts, nuts, and H-shaped operating clips on the valve doors are all made of 18-8 or 304 grade stainless steel.

The fiberglass is a polyester resin.  We mold the fiberglass shells with a pipe or half of a coupling attached for each side of the valve.  Fiberglass ribs and flanges stiffen the sides.  We make the turn-out gate and flap gate plates of the same fiberglass.

Angles are used as stiffeners on the valve center plate and on all the gates.  The angles vary in size and thickness, depending upon the unit size and are 6061-T6 aluminum.  For special applications the angles are available in stainless steel or fiberglass.  The hinges for the flap gates are continuous stainless steel.  This provides a highly durable yet strong hinge mechanism.

Gaskets are used between the shells of the valve and the center plate.  These flat gaskets (used on each side of the plate) are 5/32” H x 1”  W.  Where the valve shell is made in sections, this same gasket is placed between the flanges to seal the joint.  The gasket on the valve, turn-out , and flap gate is the same closed-cell neoprene material as the flat joint gasket, but is half-round, 1/2” diameter.  The gasket is set in a groove in the gates with an adhesive—a very special feature of the patent!
